Fire Warden Training FAQs

What training do you need to be a fire warden?

All staff need basic fire safety training, but those holding the position of fire warden (or fire marshal) need more specialised training to go with their greater responsibilities. In fact, specific fire warden training with a recognised provider is a legal requirement under the terms of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

What duties does a fire warden have in the workplace?

The duties of a fire warden cover a wide range of responsibilities, from checking fire safety equipment and the condition of fire doors, lighting and signage to inducting new members of staff and organising PAT testing and fire drills. You generally need one fire warden for every 15 to 50 employees, depending on the level of fire risk within your premises.
